Being a member of AMA allows you to experience marketing personally and learn about it. Carly Judge joined AMA because she wanted practical experience outside of the classroom (and perhaps because some current members persuaded her). She has since made the most of all that AMA has to offer, from networking events to life-changing trips like Cedar Point, where the roller coasters weren't the sole cause of her ups and downs.
Why AMA?
“I joined AMA because, as much as I can learn in a classroom, I thought that some real-world practice would help me out. That, and I was convinced to join by a couple of current members.”
Safe to say, that decision paid off!
How AMA Has Made an Impact
Carly credits her willingness to step outside of her comfort zone to AMA. She used to find networking events frightening, but these days she feels more relaxed opening up conversations and forming relationships. Even informal encounters helped in her career and personal development.
“I’m not a naturally outgoing person, but being put in environments like a networking event or even a casual meeting has gotten me out of my comfort zone more. I’d like to think that AMA has helped me open up to embracing new opportunities that come my way.”
And when it comes to communication?
“It’s such a basic and universal skill in the world of business, and so many other industries, but my communication skills have definitely improved. In terms of networking, I’m much more comfortable reaching out and talking to others than I was before AMA.”
An AMA Event She’d Love to See
Carly has an idea that combines her marketing knowledge with her desire to have a positive influence on the community: she wants to assist a local company in improving its marketing approach while providing it with some well-deserved publicity.
“There are so many shops and businesses around Big Rapids that I’m just learning about, and I’ve been here for almost three years. Bonus points if it can be turned into a competition for a little extra fun.”
Marketing Pro She’d Love to Meet
“Honestly, my knowledge of marketing professionals is very slim. That being said, I’d love to have a conversation with whoever is in charge of marketing at Duolingo. Their content is commonly out-of-pocket and unquestionably unique, but they really do know what they’re doing.”
Advice for Future AMA Members
Simple: jump right in.
“Everyone is really welcoming, so joining whatever event is being held or just attending the weekly meetings will introduce you to a multitude of beneficial experiences.”
